Tamiflu is an anti-flu medicine approved for adult patients and children as young as one year old. Besides being available as a capsule, Tamiflu comes in fruit-flavored liquid intended for small children who may have trouble swallowing the capsule. If you have a planned intranasal flu vaccine it should not be given 2 weeks before or 48 hours after taking a dose of Tamiflu. People who have kidney disease must report this health condition to their doctor as their dosage will be different from the one usually prescribed.
In some rare cases people taking this medicine reported serious allergic and skin reactions. If you experience any reactions of this kind please contact your health care provider as soon as possible. Tamiflu is very well tolerated with the most common side effects being moderate nausea and vomiting. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients this medicine contains (for instance, oseltamivir phosphate) you should not start the treatment as the same reaction is most likely to happen again. It is not exactly known how this medicine can affect the health of an unborn baby. It’s therefore not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
